Training for Hard-of-Hearing and Deaf Members

Fall is here! And at CUPW, this means opportunities for training and education. Courses are being held in every region on all kinds of topics of concern to workers and about their rights. There’s definitely no lack of choice: Introduction to Union Life, Benefits, the Pension Plan and Women in Leadership, to mention only a few.

Last weekend, I attended a training session held in the Metro-Montreal Region.

I really enjoy meeting with members, talking about what’s happening on the work floor, about our vision for public postal service and the battles we have to wage to make this vision come true.

This time, I had one more reason to be motivated. The Metro-Montreal Region put together a course for hard-of-hearing and deaf members. What a fantastic idea! This is one of the things that make our union unique: putting our principles into practice. One of the most important of these is having members fully involved in the life of the union. Seeing our sisters and brothers sharing their knowledge and talking about their role in the union with such obvious commitment is a real joy to behold. It was quite an exchange, and a fulfilling experience for me as well.

The struggle continues.

In solidarity,

Denis Lemelin
National President
