Harper's got to go !
There are plenty of reasons to be outraged by the Harper government’s economic statement. Instead of addressing the concerns of the public, it’s attacking unions by limiting the right to strike and imposing wage settlements on the public sector. And it takes full aim at women by limiting the legal action they can take to get pay equity. Faced with this economic crisis, Harper shows the same kind of insensitivity he showed in the recent election campaign. He doesn’t deserve to lead this country. He’s got to go!
As workers, we have a responsibility to call for the Prime Minister’s departure. But it’s also the duty of opposition parties. They need to do more than just talk about forming a coalition government. They need to act quickly and decisively. Now is the time for them to make history.
In addition to calling for Harper to go, the labour movement needs to suggest social and economic measures that deal with the concerns of workers and the general public. There’s a lot we can suggest.
Finally, let’s not forget one important thing: Harper’s departure would be the best thing that could happen to protect our public and universal postal service.
The struggle continues.
