Making our fight a federal election issue
Sisters and Brothers:
First of all, I’d like to thank everyone for the fantastic campaign we’ve been running up to now in our struggle to prevent deregulation and preserve our public and universal postal office. But now that federal elections have been called, we need to make this issue an election issue as well!
These elections will affect all of us, but even more so this time because the next government will have to decide what do to with the recommendations it receives from the Canada Post Strategic Review Committee. And I don’t think anyone is keen on having a majority Conservative government dealing with a Committee’s report. That’s because we know exactly what Harper would do with it. He’ll be more than happy to open up the lettermail market to his friends in the private sector.
That’s why we need to get actively involved in this election campaign. The future of our public postal office and our jobs is at stake.
We have to somehow affect the outcome. Workers need to make a difference in these elections and prevent the Tory government from getting a majority.
Let’s make the preservation our universal post office a major election issue in this campaign!
The struggle continues.
In solidarity,
Denis Lemelin
